Popovich Pavel Romanovich (1930-2009)
Born in Kiev region. Graduated from Magnitogorsk Higher Military Aviation School for Pilots in 1954, from the N. Ye. Zhukovsky Air Force Academy in 1968. The cosmonaut of the first squad. In 1962, he made 64 orbits around the Earth on the Vostok-4 spacecraft together with A.G. Nikolayev, a pilot of the Vostok-3 spacecraft. In 1974, he made the second flight on the Soyuz-14; the flight lasted 15 days. For 24 years he had been a deputy of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR, for six convocations — a deputy of the Supreme Soviet of the Ukrainian SSR. Twice Hero of the Soviet Union. Honorary citizen of 11 cities.
Awarded six orders, medals.
The title of the Honorary Citizen of Polotsk was conferred in 1962.
