Porcelain cup with the brand of the Meissen manufactory of the 18th - beginning of the 19th centuries

One of the largest production of the porcelain dishes in Europe in the 18th century located in Meissen (the city on the territory of modern Germany), where in 1710 the first manufactory for the production of porcelain tableware and figurines appeared. One of its characteristic features was the thin painting in blue colors. Often with these decorations made the whole sets, received great fame among the townspeople and the nobility of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth.
Today in the Museum of Local Lore you can see a fragment of a small porcelain cup. In those days small cups and saucers for them were especially popular among citizens. Probably in such a dish the Polotsk Jesuits brought hot chocolate or coffee to their distinguished guests.
In the collapse of the building of the 18th century where the cup was exhibited in the museum was also found a fragment of a glass with a Jesuit monogram. Even after the accession of Polotsk to the Russian Empire the Jesuits retained their influence on the minds and hearts of the citizen, being the legislators of European fashion and scientific achievements in Polotsk.
