In 1898, Yudel Bermant received permission to open a photo shop in the city of Polotsk. In the early twentieth century, its establishment was on Vitebsk street, not far from the monument of 1812. At the workshop there was a special atelier where clients had an opportunity to increase the portraits to their natural size. Bermant's photographs were awarded various awards: the Cross of Honor and the Great Gold Medal of the exhibition in Marseille in 1908, the Silver Medal at the Stanislavsky Ribbon and the Great Silver Medal of the Exhibition in the Vitebsk Province in 1909, the Commendation Sheets of 1910-1912.

Bermant worked as a photographer in the Polotsk Commission for the Protection of Antiquities and Art. In 1922 he participated in an event on the opening of the relics of saints in Polotsk. His photomaster worked until the late 1920's.
