Georgiy Sergeyevich PETROV (1903-1989)
Born in Leningrad Oblast. From 1922 to 1924 he studied at the Military Railway School in Leningrad. In 1936 the Central Committee of the CPSU (b) sent him to Polotsk. He worked as a party organizer of the locomotive depot, as a secretary of the party committee of the railway junction, then as a secretary of the party committee of Polotsk Raion Committee CPT (b). During the war he was a secretary of Polotsk Underground Party Committee. After the war, he headed Polotsk Raion Committee of the Communist Party of Belarus, and later worked as a head of the department of Polotsk Oblast Party Committee. Personal Pensioner of the Republican Significance since 1974.
He was awarded the Order of the Red Banner, the Order of the Red Banner of Labour, two Orders of the Red Star and medals.
The title of the Honorary Citizen of Polotsk was conferred in 1967.
