Grip (fork, stag)

An indispensable object in the peasant way of life when cooking in the oven was a grasp. It is an iron semicircular plate, which is mounted on a long wooden stick. With the help of the grip the hostess would put pots and cast irons with cabbage or porridge into the oven or take out of it. In this case the grip in the house was several - for each size of the pot. As a rule in the interior of a peasant hut, forks occupied a place near the stove along with a poker, a bread shovel and other “stove” inventory. It is also known about the use of the grip in the wedding rituals and funeral and memorial ritual. After the departure of the matchmakers, one of the members of the family tied all the pokers and tongs together for good luck. After the dead man was taken to the place where he was lying, he was placed in the grip to protect the house from death.
