Officer's dolman

Hussars in all European armies were considered dashing cavalry, they were attributed to the elite cavalry. And this is not surprising: in fact, they were “special forces” of that time, and their combat work was reconnaissance, long-range raids to the rear of the enemy. The aura of heroism that enveloped the hussars, as well as the bright lush form made them universal favorites, a special object of sighing for sensitive ladies and enthusiastic young men, who also dreamed of wearing a dolman embroidered in gilt cords. Hussars wore the traditional form of the army. Doloman (short uniform) was the main element of the uniform of any army which was notable for amazing variety. Even in purely French parts, it was sometimes possible to find the most bizarre combination of the color of shako and cuffs (cuff on the sleeve), not to mention the peculiarities of the uniform of the armies of the allies of France.
The Volkovysk military history museum of Bagration handed over to the The Local history museum the dolman of an officer of a hussar regiment of the French army: white uniforms in the form of a short woolen cloth jacket to the waist with a standing collar. The collar of a dolman from red fabric with single-row sewing in the form of a buttonhole pattern is sheathed on the upper and lower edges with a silver braid. The sleeve with red cuff decorated with ornamental silver embroidery. On the front of the uniform there are 13 transverse rows of double silver cords, laid at the ends in curls, with three rows of 13 smooth buttons.
Today the dolman of the officer of the French army of the war with Napoleon can be seen in the exposition of the Museum of Local Lore, in the hall dedicated to the events of the war of 1812 in Polotsk.
