Politics of Belarusization in Polotsk

The main goal of the new national policy carried out since 1924 was the development of the Belarusian culture and language, which became state-owned together with Russian, Polish and Jewish. Teachers from BSU and from courses of Belarusian studies were sent to Polotsk. There were books, newspapers, magazines in the national language; all the documentation, signs, and records management were translated to Belarusian.
A mandatory study of the national language, literature, geography, history and economy of the republic was introduced in the elementary school, in the seven years of Polotsk, in the forest and pedagogical technical schools. Local studies have become widespread.

In 1925 a branch of the All-Belarusian Literary Association "Molodnyak" was organized on the basis of the studio at Polotsk Pedagogical College. The young literary men published two literary almanacs and a collection of works. Their poems and stories were published in the local newspaper “Red Polotsk Region”.

The growth of national self-consciousness and the activity of numerous organizations in the mainstream of Belarusization were declared as propaganda and education of nationalism in 1930. The campaign to identify national democracy began, which marked the beginning of mass repression. The policy of Belarusization was curtailed.
