Peasant life of the 19 - early 20 centuries

The ethnographic part of the exposition “Peasant Life” is represented by the reconstruction of the hut of the 19 - early 20 centuries.
Between the residential part of the house and the porch was a “tristene” (the room in which you are). Agricultural implements, utensils and other items which are necessary in everyday life were stored in the “tristene”. Most of the house was occupied by a dwelling room with an oven and chimney. The oven warmed and fed, so the attitude towards it was special and respectful.

Diagonally from the oven was the most honorable place in the house which called the red corner. There were iconsdec orated with pious and special embroidered towels. There also was a table covered with tablecloth. The family members sat down at the table, taking a place in a certain sequence: the owner of the house was in the red corner, the other members of the family were behind him by seniority.

The peasant hut turned into a workshop in the winter. Men wove bast shoes, made dishes. Women spun, weaved, sewed clothes, knit and embroidered.
